Get up and get motivated

Most of us find it difficult to make time to go to the grocery store and cook on the same night, let alone find the energy to workout after being at work 8-hours.

When you finally do make it to the gym you really don’t even feel like being there or have no idea what to focus on. We all have been there… unmotivated and unproductive.

I know that daily exercise is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but sometimes people just aren’t motivated to do it. The lack of motivation can last one day, two days, then possibly turn into months, sometimes years.

Before you know it, you are looking at your gym membership as an expense that should be cut from your monthly budget.

Now let’s fast forward six months. You’ve gained 20 pounds, can’t fit any of your clothes, your confidence is at an all-time low, you have no gym membership and no idea where to begin.

The first thing I have noticed that 80% of people do who have gained a significant amount of weight is looking for the quick fix; diet pills, weight loss tea, body wraps, etc.

It took you 6 months to put the weight on, it will take that same amount of time maybe more to take it off depending on your age and effort.

Here are some ways to help you get out of your workout slump and feeling fabulous again:

First,

create an “Action Plan”. Your plan will help you begin sooner than later. Planning, signs your name on the “ i am commited to this” dotted line.

An action plan outlines what you are going to do and how you are going to do it. Use your phone’s calendar to set the schedule. I personally like google calendar because I can set reminders, input notes, and invite others directly from the calendar app. Another thing that should be part of the planning process is writing down 10-20 personal affirmations then set a time to read them each day. One of my daily affirmations reads, “I am healthy, free from negativity and diseases.”

Second,

set a SMALL goal for yourself. Something like, walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes twice this week or jog to the corner of my block and back.

I suggest small goals to start, then work your way up to larger goals. This helps you stay motivated to continue on your path and not be disappointed too early during your restart. Once you accomplish one, make a new one. Celebrate the small achievements! I personally enjoy using my Apple Watch which allows me to set weekly goals for moving, exercise and standing.

Finally, share your Action Plan with family and friends who support you.

When you share your plan maybe you will inspire someone else. Heck, they might even ask if you need an accountability partner. An accountability partner helps motivate you to complete your goals while you equally motivate and push them.

Accept support from your family because this journey is not going to be easy. I also suggest joining Facebook exercise groups, subscribing to blogs like this one that is related to what you are trying to accomplish.

Remember weight loss is a two way street and you can never, ever outwork a bad diet. Do your best at making better food choices that will give you energy and a balance. I will discuss more about healthy food choices in a different blog.

Comment and let me know how everything is going. If you need anything, I’m always one click away.
